We're launching at 24 Hours In The Old Pueblo!
Well, here we are, six months on from our launch in the UK, and Broken Riders hits the USA!
Why, you might ask? Well, our philosophy of 'looking after our playground' means that as a business, we're always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment. It seemed crazy to be shipping bamboo t-shirts and other products across the Atlantic ocean when very similar, equally high quality products are available right here in the US. And as we're now going to be shipping from Phoenix, AZ, then the shipping costs for you, our US customers, are drastically reduced.
The US is the mecca of mountain biking and there are so many active scenes and different disciplines to get involved in. 24 Hours In The Old Pueblo is one of the classic US endurance races. Held in the Sonoran Desert, near Tuscon, AZ, it tests both physical and mental toughness as solo riders and teams aim to complete as many laps as possible in a 24 hour period. As if the race itself wasn't enough, the typical extreme climatic conditions of the desert - intense heat during the day and freezing cold at night - test riders to the max. And yet, despite the hardship, there's an incredibly friendly atmosphere, and everyone leaves with fond memories, aiming to come back again next year.
Broken Riders do have a team in the race, with our very own Dan Moat (in the photo above), taking the lead role. Dan is the only man I know who smiles while riding a singlespeed up the steepest climbs! He's running the US business out of Phoenix and is, like me, and obsessive mountain biker. Living in Arizona, he has a wealth of trails on his doorstep, and makes full use of them. You'll often find him nailing the trails in a Broken Riders tee at South Mountain Park, or further afield in Sedona or Black Canyon. If you see him, or anyone else wearing Broken Riders gear, why not stop and say "hi"? I like to see us all as part of one big club, and all you've got to do to qualify for membership is to love to ride, fall off and get back on!
Anyway, I hope to see some of you this weekend out in the Sonoran Desert, and I hope that you'll all join us as we continue this incredible journey!
Thanks for stopping by.
